Drop the Needle (2016)

Frlan’s Drop the Needle installation was created during an artist residency at the Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum. Secretly constructed from 1959 to 1961 and furnished largely with 1960s and 1970s office furniture, the bunker contained a CBC broadcasting studio to alert Canadians in case of nuclear attack. Frlan responded with a series of 1970s suitcase record players to inform the public of the 11 Steps to Survival, a booklet published by Emergency Planning Canada.
